Manchester United will be without Christian Eriksen until late April or early May after he suffered an ankle injury.

The Dane picked up a problem following a strong challenge from Andy Carroll in a 3-1 FA Cup win at home to Reading on Saturday night.

Signs looked worrying for United when Eriksen was forced to leave the stadium on crutches, and they have been dealt a hammer blow after learning the extent of the injury.

United have confirmed Eriksen will miss the next few months and will not return until the back end of the 2022/23 season, with late April or early May pencilled in as a potential return date.

Since joining from Brentford on a free transfer, Eriksen has provided much-needed creativity at the heart of United's midfield and had formed a solid partnership with fellow summer arrival Casemiro.

90min reported on Monday that Erik ten Hag's side are unlikely to bring in a new midfielder prior to the January transfer deadline despite worries over Eriksen and interest in Scott McTominay.
