Manchester United's 2023/24 campaign has been a tale of inconsistency and injuries.

The Red Devils haven't been great in the Premier League, sitting adrift of the top four after some underwhelming performances which also contributed to their premature Champions League demise in the winter.

Erik ten Hag's players have been way below par, that much is clear, but the Dutchman has also seen his squad decimated by a raft of injury blows.

The treatment room at Carrington always seems to be busy, so let's take a look at Man Utd's current fitness issues.

Marcus Rashford

  • Issue: Unspecified
  • Potential Return: Unknown

Rashford has endured a forgettable campaign, with the winger particularly struggling for rhythm in 2024.

He has a fight on his hands to make England's Euro 2024 squad, and he can ill-afford to miss any games down the stretch. Rashford, however, is an injury doubt after he was withdrawn in the second-half at Wembley on Sunday.

Ten Hag has so far refused to comment on the status of his wide man ahead of Wednesday's clash with Sheffield United.

Scott McTominay

  • Potential Return: Unknown

McTominay has enjoyed a productive season, and he was on the scoresheet again at the weekend.

However, the Scotsman was forced off later on at Wembley, with the midfielder appearing to clutch at his groin. He was later pictured limping through the mixed zone post-match, and it seems as if he might endure a period on the sidelines.

Willy Kambwala

  • Issue: Unspecified
  • Potential Return: Unknown

United's long list of defensive injuries thrust teenager Kambwala into the limelight, but he, too, has succumbed to injury.

Kambwala's unspecified issue saw him miss Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with Coventry, and there has been no news regarding his potential return.

Mason Mount

  • Issue: Unspecified
  • Potential Return: Unknown

Mount's debut season at Old Trafford was compromised by a calf injury which ruled him out for four months.

Bright moments have been fleeting, and Mount was absent yet again as United just about bypassed Coventry in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Englishman didn't travel with the squad to Wembley, and there's little information as to whether Mount has suffered a recurrence of the same calf injury.

Lisandro Martinez

  • Issue: Calf injury
  • Potential Return: May 2024

The bullish Argentine has missed much of the season as a result of foot and knee injuries but did make a return to action against Brentford in late March after almost two months out. However, despite making a comeback in west London, Martinez is back in the treatment room after sustaining a calf injury in training.

Man Utd expected him to be sidelined for approximately a month, with a potential return date of early May. However, the Red Devils may be tempted to avoid using him again this season given his fitness woes.

Tyrell Malacia

  • Issue: Knee injury
  • Potential Return: Summer 2024

Luke Shaw's injury issues this season should have opened the door for an extended run in the team for Tyrell Malacia, but the Dutchman has had his own fitness woes to contend with.

A knee problem which required surgery has kept the left-back out for the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign to date. Ten Hag had previously warned that Malacia would "take some more weeks" to return, shifting his ever-delayed return back to March.

It's April now and there is no sign of an imminent return for the youngster, who we might not see the again this season.

Anthony Martial

  • Issue: Groin injury
  • Potential Return: Unknown

In the same week that it became clear Man Utd would not be triggering the extension in Anthony Martial's contract, the Frenchman picked up an illness.

Before he could find a way back into United's squad, Martial went under the knife to fix a lingering groin injury in January. The 28-year-old striker's return date is still unknown, although there is hope that he can feature before the end of the campaign.

Luke Shaw

  • Issue: Hamstring injury
  • Potential Return: May 2024

Ten Hag is right to be cautious with Luke Shaw. Manchester United are a different team with the left-back available but his career at Old Trafford has been plagued by injury.

Shaw had already missed 16 matches with a muscular problem before hobbling off halfway through his side's 2-1 victory against Aston Villa in February. The 28-year-old was surprisingly rushed back into the starting XI just seven days later for a trip to Luton Town but didn't even make it to the interval at Kenilworth Road.

It later emerged that Shaw had sustained a very serious hamstring injury and Man Utd have missed his presence. However, Ten Hag has hinted at him playing again this season.

"Yes, I expect him back, I think, before the end of the season. That is the plan, and he is still on schedule for this. He will return into our team," said the Dutch coach.

Victor Lindelof

Issue: Thigh injury
Potential Return: May 2024

Man Utd's defensive injuries continue to make life tough for them and Lindelof has also added his name to a long list of absentees at the back. The Swede picked up a thigh injury during the 1-1 draw with Brentford in late March and is now set for a month on the sidelines at least.

Man Utd are hopeful that the centre-back will return to action before the end of the current campaign, especially given that the FA Cup final has been added to their calendar.

Raphael Varane

Issue: Muscle injury
Potential Return: May 2024

Varane has been out of action since picking up a muscle injury during United's dramatic defeat to Chelsea at the start of April.

The defender has missed United's previous three games, and although there was initial optimism that Varane would endure just a brief period on the sidelines, it's not yet clear when he'll return to the fold.

Jonny Evans

Issue: Muscle
Potential Return: May 2024

Evans also succumbed at Stamford Bridge, with the veteran defender picking up a minor muscle injury.

As was the case with Varane, the club hopes Evans would make a swift return to action, but the centre-back doesn't appear any closer to a comeback three weeks on since United's defeat to Chelsea.
