Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has confirmed that ‘continued conversations’ with a number of players out of contract at the end of the season are now ongoing.

The club is also looking to trigger 12-month extension options on several contracts as well, while long-term planning for future transfer windows remains an important strategy.

Supporters have been keen to see the likes of Jackie Groenen handed fresh terms. Other fan favourites like Ona Batlle and Alessia Russo are among those whose current deals are due to expire at the end of the season but for whom there are extension clauses.

“We’re ongoing,” Skinner explained when pressed on the subject.

“We are having conversations and starting to have continued conversations now. I don’t engage in that process [at this stage]. We’ll talk to the players – we have options years on some of the players that we will look to exercise,” he added.

“But then, what we’re doing as well is going through a planning process designing the squad for the next [transfer] windows.”

United have twice finished fourth in the WSL since promotion in 2019 and are looking to make that next step towards becoming a Champions League club.

Victory last weekend at home against Leicester, combined with Tottenham dropping points, pushed Skinner’s team back into third place in the WSL table on goal difference. They also have a five-point cushion over a fifth-place Manchester City side who have a game in hand.
