Man Utd fans to protest against Glazer family before Liverpool fixture
An anonymous Manchester United supporters' group have called on fans to protest outside Old Trafford ahead of their clash with Liverpool on 2 May, with the end-game of majority fan ownership.
The Glazer family have long been at odds with the fans, but the announcement that United would join a European Super League tipped many supporters over the edge.
Despite their retraction from the controversial tournament, fans have continued to voice their fury on social media, and it seems they will soon make their displeasure clear in person.
An 'anonymous fan group' has issued a statement organising a mass protest outside of Old Trafford ahead of their clash with Liverpool on 2 May. They want to wrestle majority control away from the American owners, in favour of the German model - which would take at least 51% of the club's shares out of the reach of external investors.
This comes after similar demands from the Red Knights supporters group, who demanded the Glazers reduce their ownership in the club to 49.9%.
The anonymous statement reads: "All of the consequences of the debt-ridden Glazer ownership of the club have come home to roost in the last week, with the disgraceful plans to walk away from our roots in English football, and walk away from out history and tradition in the European Cup.
"This disgraceful plan was a direct consequence of an ownership structure which is all about money and nothing about supporters.
"United fans demand change. We demand the German model requiring fans own 50% plus 1 of the club. We demand that the Glazers begin the process to make this happen with immediate effect.
"The last week has shown them the future they dreamed of for Manchester United is not possible and is never going to happen. There will never be a better time to hand majority ownership to the only people who have the long-term interests of the club at heart - the United fans.
"We call on all United fans to come together on the forecourt at 2pm, before the Liverpool game, to collectively make this point in a way the Glazers, and the rest of the world, cannot ignore."
