Manchester United have given permission for Ona Batlle and Signe Bruun to train with Levante and Lyon respectively ahead of Euro 2022 this summer.

Batlle formerly played for Levante prior to joining United in the summer of 2020, while Bruun arrived on loan from Lyon in January. Despite being allowed to train elsewhere for the time being, both still remain under contract in Manchester.

United’s 2021/22 campaign finished with the final day of the WSL season last weekend. A number of players, including Ella Toone, have already left to go on holiday – in Toone’s case for a break prior to linking up with the England squad in June.

But both Levante and Lyon are still in action in Spain and France respectively, which means the ability for the pair to continue full squad training. That will be particularly important for Bruun, who has only just returned to fitness from an injury that kept her sidelined in throughout April.

Concerns from United fans may come from the fact that Batlle is out of contract this summer. But the club intends to trigger a 12-month extension option and keep the full-back.

“Ona is a great player. She is influential in what she does, she’s a big part of the squad and the team now,” assistant coach Martin Ho said in April.

“She’s very well thought of within the playing group, she’s very well thought of by staff, and Ona continues to deliver for us every single week and is massive part of what we’re doing.”

Bruun’s loan deal will also soon expire, although Marc Skinner has confirmed interest in potentially bringing the forward back to Leigh Sports Village for next season.

“We’re having conversations and they will continue to go on,” the boss said of the situation.

“Signe hasn’t been available for a lot of games with a horrible quad niggle – a really weird one. It’s been difficult for her, but she’s very much a great, great player. We are looking at Signe as a possibility but there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

“Her attitude has been brilliant, great person, wonderful footballer inside the penalty area, so she’s definitely someone we’ll have a think about for summer recruitment.”

Batlle will be in action at Euro 2022 for Spain, with Bruun turning out for Denmark. Both countries have been drawn in the same tough group alongside Germany and Finland.
