Man Utd 2-1 LASK Player Ratings: Red Devils Limp Into Europa League Quarter-Finals

Manchester United's first leg blitz of LASK ensured the return leg would be a formality, and, well it was, as the Red Devils beat the visitors 2-1 Europa League in the round of 16 clash on Wednesday night.

That said, it was far from convincing, as the Red Devils laboured to victory in a match they were second best in. An absolutely stunning Philipp Wiesinger strike put LASK deservedly in front, before Jesse Lingard's goal spared United's blushes just moments later. The turnaround was completed two minutes from the end as Anthony Martial squeezed home the winner.

Here are the player ratings for United and LASK.

MANCHESTER UNITED

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Williams continues to impress in the left-back slot / Matthew Ashton - AMA/Getty Images

Sergio Romero (GK) - 7/10 - Didn't really put a foot wrong. Collected a few crosses comfortably and could do nothing about the opening goal - it was a wonder goal and a half.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah (RB) - 5/10 - Tried to get into advanced positions when possible but his final ball was lacking far too often. It's clear he hasn't had much playing time of late.

Eric Bailly (CB) - 6/10 - Drafted into the side alongside Maguire and made a few good clearances. United were forced to face a fair bit of pressure without being under serious duress, and Bailly did alright.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 6/10 - A couple of wobbles at the beginning, including a wayward simple pass and static defending from a corner, didn't paint Maguire in the best light. But he looked more assured as the match went on.

Brandon Williams (LB) - 7/10 - He's the one pushing for a starting berth more than any of the others. He's lively, dedicated and composed, although there is still some polishing needed in a few areas of his game.

2. Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM) - 5/10 - Looked a bit leggy at times. His fine performances during the Premier League campaign are set to fizzle out now Pogba has returned, but he gave an ok account of himself without dazzling.

Fred (CM) - 7/10 - Probably United's best performer, although the all-round display has pretty poor in truth. Was the one looking to play the ball forward when he could, actually putting some pace on his passes. Nobody else fancied doing that.

Jesse Lingard (AM) - 7/10 - Got his goal but the question mark over whether he's good enough for United remains. Showed a couple of decent touches, but he didn't do enough with the ball at his feet and was hauled off with just less than half an hour to go.

3. Forwards

Juan Mata (RW) - 5/10 - The man has zero pace. Zero. While this has been the case for a while, when he's in a wide berth he struggles. This was the case on Wednesday, where he couldn't make a meaningful impact.

Odion Ighalo (ST) - 6/10 - Was feeding on scraps, at best. Showed a couple of neat touches, including a smart flick in the box in the first half, but it was a frustrating night for the Nigerian.

Daniel James (LW) - 5/10 - The only one in the starting lineup with any real pace about him. Unfortunately, he couldn't use his speed to any real use and his final ball was lacking.

4. Substitutes

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alexander Schlager (GK) - 7/10 - Might as well have been a ghost in the first half; had nothing to do. Could perhaps have come out quicker for Lingard's goal.

Philipp Wiesinger (RCB) - 8/10 - Mostly untroubled in the game until United scored. His goal, however, was utterly sublime. What. A. Goal.

Gernot Trauner (CB) - 7/10 - Like his fellow defenders, played very high up the field due to the attacking style that LASK sought to play and did alright.

Andrés Andrade (LCB) - 7/10 - Had a field day against a slow Mata, who didn't trouble the Colombian. Should've scored with a first half header that hit the bar.

6. Midfielders

Reinhold Ranftl (RM) - 5/10 - Struggled to find a way past Williams on the night.

James Holland (CM) - 7/10 - The Australian was solid in the heart of midfield, and composed in possession.

Peter Michorl (CM) - 6/10 - A decent enough display, pressed at the right times.

René Renner (LM) - 8/10 - Caused Fosu-Mensah problems with direct running.

7. Forwards

Dominik Frieser (RW) - 6/10 - Occupied the backline well but wasn't having much joy inside Williams.

Marko Raguž (ST) - 7/10 - Mostly used as a focal point up front to bring his fellow teammates into play. Did it well.

Husein Balić (LW) - 6/10 - Good link up play with Renner that had Fosu-Mensah on edge.
