Manchester City and Arsenal have become formidable foes since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, when Pep Guardiola went head-to-head with his former assistant Mikel Arteta in the Premier Legaue title race.

It was the former Barcelona coach who came out on top come the end of the campaign, but the two managers are trading blows again this year as Arsenal look to steal Man City's Premier League crown.

The Cityzens have generally dominated this fixture over recent years, although Arsenal did secure a memorable late victory at the Emirates Stadium earlier this campaign.

Here's a close look at the most recent encounters between the two giants.

Arsenal finally brought a run of 12 (yes, twelve) successive Premier League defeats against Man City to an end in October, and they left it late to do so. Gabriel Martinelli's 86th-minute winner ended that particular unwanted record and was one of the first signs that the Gunners would battle with the champions for the title again this season.

Arsenal may have won the game more convincingly had Mateo Kovacic been sent off in the first half - as he should have been - but the narrowness of the victory made it all the more sweet for the supporters inside the Emirates Stadium come the full-time whistle.

Some more late drama took centre stage in the meeting between Arsenal and Man City in the Community Shield at Wembley at the start of the season. While a glorified friendly, it did feel a significant moment for the Gunners, who hadn't tasted victory in any competition against the Sky Blues for over three years.

Cole Palmer, who would join Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window, put Man City ahead with 13 minutes to play, but Leandro Trossard's strike in the 11th minute of stoppage time would send the game to extra time in the capital.

With nothing to separate the sides across the additional half-an-hour of football, it was Arsenal who would keep their cool in the subsequent penalty shootout, with Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri among those failing to convert their spot kicks.

Man City found themselves five points off Arsenal with two games in hand as the two teams fought for the 2022/23 Premier League crown. With only a few games to play, it was crucial that Guardiola's side picked up all three points when the Gunners travelled to the Etihad - which is exactly what they did.

It was De Bruyne who stole the show in Manchester, bagging a brace and assisting John Stones as the hosts found themselves three goals to the good shortly after half-time. Rob Holding pulled a consolation back for the visitors, but Erling Haaland restored Man City's advantage in the fifth minute of added time.

The victory moved Man City within just two points of league leaders Arsenal and was effectively the moment that the Gunners surrendered the title.

Man City had also dealt a blow to Arsenal's title bid just two months prior to the meeting at the Etihad, with the Gunners wasting the opportunity to send their rivals a clear message. Arteta's men shot themselves in the foot after 24 minutes, Takehiro Tomiyasu's short back-pass wonderfully converted from range by De Bruyne.

Bukayo Saka levelled from the spot minutes before the break, but late efforts from Jack Grealish and Haaland secured Guardiola's side a vital three points in north London - although the reigning champions still found themselves three points off Arsenal having played a game more.

The first of five meetings between the teams in 2023, Man City once again came out on top in an FA Cup fourth round clash between the teams at the Etihad. Despite defeat, the Gunners did themselves proud with a heavily rotated side, but Guardiola's side progressed regardless en route to the trophy.

Nathan Ake's second-half strike was the difference between the two teams, with the introduction of William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli off the bench unable to help Arsenal into the fifth round.
