Legendary former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is reported to be under investigation for allegedly instigating violence against a referee during a live stream on Twitch.

The 34-year-old was forced to hang up his boots in December 2021 after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia while playing for Barcelona two months earlier - he had joined the Catalan giants from City in May of that year on a two-year contract.

Aguero has become a relatively outspoken figure since retiring, getting into a public feud with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at one point, and has become a popular gaming figure on Twitch.

He often live streams and talks about issues in football to a huge audience, but worryingly suffered another recent heart scare while streaming with Ibai Llanos.

Fortunately Aguero was okay, but his latest rant about a penalty call in Independiente's match with Racing Club last month appears to have landed him in hot water.

Spanish publication AS state that Aguero is being investigated by the Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport after calling into question the integrity of official Yael Falcon Perez.

"How can he, the referee, what the f**k is his name...Yael Falcon Perez," Aguero is alleged to have said.

"Listen to me, Yael Falcon, that name is a disaster. You can say [the penalty], 'it starts outside and ends up inside'. But he goes on to say 'where the first contact is made is where the foul is called'. The truth is that he's ready to kick the s**t out of this fathead."

Upon news of Aguero being investigated, an accompanying statement read: "Comments made by the former soccer player, internationally recognised as a supporter of Independiente, Sergio Leonel Aguero, have come out in the media, about the work carried out by the referee Yael Falcon Perez in the match in question, in which there was a disputed play that led to a penalty in favour of the visiting club,' said the agency head Eduardo Aparicio.

"It is necessary to mention that his comments towards the referring authority – aggressive and demeaning – clearly contravene the current regulations on sports safety and could be interpreted as instigating violence. [There have been] threats received by referee Yael Falcon Perez and his family, [and] flares launched at his mother's home."

Aguero, a five-time Premier League winner with City and scorer of 260 goals in 390 club appearances, is yet to publicly comment on the matter.
