Real Madrid stretched their lead at the top of La Liga to ten points as Karim Benzema's double and Vinicius Junior's strike gave them victory at Mallorca on Monday night.

Benzema teed up Vinicius for the opener before the Brazilian was later fouled for a penalty, allowing the Frenchman to rattle in for the second.

The striker then rose to head in Marcelo's cross with precision to take his league tally to 21 goals for the season.

Benzema came closest during the opening throws, getting clear down the left following nice play from Toni Kroos and Vinicius before seeing his close-range strike saved by Sergio Rico.

Real had a few more half-chances through Ferland Mendy and Toni Kroos before Mallorca squandered a wonderful chance to take the lead.

Angel Rodriguez raced onto a ball over the top of Real's defence before Nacho made an awesome last-gasp challenge. However, Maffeo picked up the loose ball but could only strike the post when extremely well placed to score.

Los Blancos soon reasserted themselves, with Vinicius having a shot deflected behind and Alaba seeing an effort similarly blocked.

Real took the lead around ten minutes into the second half in somewhat controversial fashion. Iddrisu Baba was caught dawdling on the ball by Federico Valverde and lost possession, allowing Benzema to play in Vinicius to finish through Rico's legs for the game's opener.

Vinicius was then brought down by Brian Olivan in the box as Real countered, gifting Benzema the chance to make it 2-0, which the striker duly accepted.

Benzema soon put the gloss on the scoreline, heading in substitute Marcelo's cross into the far corner.

Real's closest competitors Sevilla have drawn their last two games, gifting the Blancos more space at the top of the table. Mallorca, on the other hand, remain entrenched in the relegation battle, sitting just two points above the bottom three.

Real Madrid player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Thibaut Courtois (GK) - 6/10 - Not overly tested, making a comfortable save from Olivan in one of his few highlights.

Lucas Vazquez (RB) - 7/10 - Had to bring down Kubo for a yellow. Got into space on occasion and linked nicely with Rodrygo. Made six tackles, a game high for Real.

Nacho (CB) - 8/10 - Great a last-ditch challenge to deny Rodriguez, though Real would still have gone behind if it weren't for Maffeo's poor finishing. The game got easier for the Spaniard as Mallorca's threat waned, but he was still solid.

David Alaba (CB) - 7/10 - Got away with completely missing a clearance in the second half, with Muqiri flat on his heels behind him. Otherwise largely untroubled.

Ferland Mendy (LB) - 6/10 - Saw a blast pushed wide by Rico. Attacking threat was very limited and watched on as his replacement Marcelo got an assist seconds after coming on.

2. Midfielders

Federico Valverde (CM) - 7/10 - Wiped out the counter-attacking Kubo for a yellow card. Great harrying for the goal, though would have been penalised on most days. Brought off for Modric.

Casemiro (CM) - 8/10 - A booking away from missing El Clasico and could have got one for bringing down Rodriguez. Wisely taken off for Camavinga after an hour, crucially without a yellow, having made five interceptions.

Toni Kroos (CM) - 6/10 - Struck wide from 25 yards, slipping as he took his shot. Set-piece delivery was curiously off colour.

3. Forwards

Rodrygo (RW) - 4/10 - Punched Kubo in the face and got away with it. Didn't get any shots away and was fouled a fair amount, eventually having to come off injured.

Karim Benzema (ST) - 9/10 - Saw his first big effort saved by Rico. Unselfishly played it across to Vinicius for the opener. Played in Vinicius before he was brought down for the penalty which he then tucked in.

Vinicius Junior (LW) - 9/10 - Was Real's biggest threat during the first half, finding space whenever he got the ball. Booked for some shoving with Rodriguez. Got the goal his performance deserved in the second half, his 14th La Liga strike of the campaign. Earned the penalty for Benzema to make it 2-0. An electric display from the winger.

4. Substitutes

Eduardo Camavinga (CM) - 7/10 - Came on for Casemiro and took up his role, making three tackles.

Luka Modric (CM) - 6/10 - Glided around the pitch for 30 minutes.

Dani Carvajal (RB) - 5/10 - Came on and was pretty wasteful with the ball.

Marco Asensio (RW) - 5/10 - Not overly influential, even with Real's right wing spot clearly up for grabs.

Marcelo (LB) - 7/10 - Got the assist for Benzema's second moments after his introduction from the bench.
