On Thursday, March 16th, MLS and MLS Next Pro announced the latest details for the 2023 Generation Adidas Cup.

With 49 clubs from four continents and 12 countries, the 2023 version of the Generation Adidas Cup will be the largest since the tournament's inception in 2007.

The event will occur at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from April 1st through the 9th. A total of 80 U-15 and U-17 teams will participate in the tournament, with 29 MLS academies being represented.

Furthermore, there will be European, South American, Mexican, and Nigerian clubs taking part as well.

Arsenal, Boca Juniors, Club America, Manchester United, Palmeiras, and Real Madrid are just some of the big-name teams that are listed.

“Generation adidas Cup brings together an elite group of world-class youth talent from around the globe and provides an exceptionally competitive environment for participating MLS NEXT clubs,” said Fred Lipka, MLS Vice President of Player Youth and Development.

"Top-tier international competition is an important catalyst in the development of talent, and the 80 participating teams will provide an incredible opportunity for all involved.”

The format of the competition will see 40 teams divided into 10 groups of four, with each club competing in its respective age group.

For MLS teams, their seeding was determined by their qualifiers at the MLS NEXT Fest that took place in December 2022.

Every team will then play three group matches to determine how they qualify for the next round. Then, the 16 teams that do advance will play in a bracket-style knockout tournament that determines the winner.

You can watch the 2023 tournament on Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass when it kicks off on April 1st.
