Lyon have taken swift action to strengthen for the 2021/22 season after their domestic and European dominance came to an end by announcing the triple signing of Arsenal midfielder Danielle van de Donk, as well as Christiane Endler and Signe Bruun from Paris Saint-Germain.

An agreement in principle has also been reached to sign left-back Perle Morroni, a third PSG player.

It was PSG that knocked Lyon out of the Champions League in 2020/21, ending a run of five consecutive titles, while they also finally broke Lyon’s 14-year streak of French titles.

In response, three of PSG’s players will now be trading the capital for Lyon.

Endler is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while 23-year-old Bruun has scored prolifically in her young career to date. Van de Donk, meanwhile, has been one of the top WSL players since she arrived in England to join the Gunners from Swedish football in 2015.

Endler has agreed a long-term contract with Lyon until the summer of 2024, while Bruun and Van de Donk have each signed two year deals until 2023.

Lyon have loaned long-term starting goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi to sister club OL Reign for the 2021 NWSL season, ending in November, which makes Endler an obvious replacement.

Eugenie Le Sommer and Dzsenifer Marozsan have similarly joined the American club, sparking the need for recruitment in midfield and attack, which is where Bruun and Van de Donk come in.

Lyon have already seen Japan star Saki Kumagai leave the club this summer after eight years to join Bayern Munich, while Nikita Parris is also expected to return to England to join Arsenal.

Lyon’s own recruitment may not be finished as strong rumours continue regarding interest in prolific Gunners striker Vivianne Miedema, who is the WSL’s all-time leading goalscorer.
