Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has confessed that he could hardly be less worried about his future at the club if he tried.

Now 36 years old, Modric continues to excel in Real's famous midfield alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro, and he was named as the MVP of the Spanish Super Cup final against Athletic on Sunday evening.

After the game, Modric was asked about his future at Real and he revealed that he is certain he will sign an extension and is in no rush to get the process started.

"I have a good relationship with the club and I hope to continue like this," he said. "I'm sure we'll reach an agreement and do what we think is best for both of us.

"It didn't take us two minutes to reach an agreement [on his last extension]. I'm not even thinking about that right now. My wish is known and I'm sure the club want this too."

Modric is in the final six months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu but is expected to sign at least one more 12-month extension, after which he could consider retiring.

He hopes to play at the new Bernabeu, which is expected to be opened in December 2022, and is then prepared to just take things as they come year by year.

Modric was also asked about recent praise from club president Florentino Perez, who claimed that the midfielder is in the best form of his life and deserving of another Ballon d'Or to add to the one he picked up in 2018.

"There is a lot of talk about age in football," he began. "I'm enjoying football like never before, but now more than ever, you don't know how long you are going to last at this level. I make a real effort to keep going for more years, because there is nothing better than being a Real Madrid player.

"I don't like to talk about myself, but I feel good. That's obvious. Mentally, I feel good too. The important thing is to continue doing things well and let others speak. The president said that about me? Thank you."
