Luis Suarez has poured cold water on the notion of him linking up with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi at MLS side Inter Miami.

The forwards formed two parts of the famous 'MSN' front three at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017. Suarez and Messi alone scored a combined 864 goals in 1,057 appearances for the Blaugrana, winning a number of major honors.

Messi now plays for Paris Saint-Germain but has just one year left on his current deal, while Suarez is a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid and rejecting the chance to join River Plate.

The pair are among a number of high-profile stars regularly linked with Inter Miami in recent years - a club that's been home to the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi.

However, when asked recently about the prospect of enjoying another partnership with Messi in Florida, Suarez didn't seem optimistic.

“Play with Messi at Inter Miami? That is not real. Many things are said. We players cannot go out 24 hours a day to deny what they say. We let them talk; we let them say. Leo has his future in Paris. Then I don’t know where he will want to retire,” Suarez said.

“I have my project, which is at a sports level now. And then discuss it with my family. Then, if we both end up living in Barcelona? Yes, because we are friends, families are friends. But from there to having a sports project together… they speculate, they talk a lot, they sell a lot. They have to leave that.”

At present, Higuain fills one of Inter Miami's three Designated Player (DP) spots, while Mexican playmaker Rodolfo Pizarro occupies another despite being away from the club on loan. The club also recently signed 2020 MLS MVP Alejandro Pozuelo from Toronto FC on a DP contract, making it highly unlikely they'd be able to sign just one of Messi or Suarez, let alone both.
