Lucy Bronze picked up the Best FIFA Women's Player award at the annual ceremony on Thursday evening.

The England international has enjoyed a superb year, notching her third consecutive Champions League medal with Lyon after triumphing over Wolfsburg in August.

The full-back has since moved back to England, having signed for WSL champions Manchester City, and she's now topped off her incredible year by being named the Best FIFA Women's Player.

Bronze fought off competition from Chelsea's Pernille Harder and former Lyon teammate Wendie Renard to be crowned the winner, and she couldn't contain her shock once her name had been announced.

"What a surprise to even be nominated alongside the other two," she said. "I don't think I have the words to explain how I'm feeling, but if there's anything 2020 has taught us, it's to appreciate every moment.

"Winning this award right now, I will appreciate it more than ever and I'll remember this moment for the rest of my life.

"I'm thankful for every club I've played for, but I'm so glad to be back home. Winning a trophy of this stature is incredible, thank you."

When asked to pick out the best moment of the past 12 months, Bronze confessed the Champions League win was the pinnacle.

"The magic had to be the Champions League. It was disappointing not to have the fans there and the support there, but it was incredible to play those big games and lift the big trophy at the end."

Bronze went on to add she's still desperate for more success - in particular at international level with England - and that she feels like her competitive nature has helped her reach the top.

When asked of her desire to win, Bronze replied: "Yeah I think that's something I've always had, I'm quite an obsessive person with winning, even if it's tying your shoelaces I want to win. Competitive nature is in my family, it's in my blood."
