Manchester United head into the final weekend of their best ever WSL season knowing that Champions League qualification is already secured, having also kept the title race alive with last weekend's last-gasp winner against local rivals Manchester City.

United will only be champions if Chelsea lose against Reading, who are bottom of the league, and they win against Liverpool by any scoreline, or if Chelsea draw and they win by six or more goals.

It is unlikely that United will be lifting the WSL trophy come late afternoon on Saturday, but they can but do the job in front of them and hold onto hope from a favour elsewhere.

Liverpool were actually in a similar position back in 2014 and came out on top. The Reds, under current manager Matt Beard in his first spell in charge, jumped from third to first on the final day to win the title on goal difference because both Chelsea and Birmingham dropped points.

This season has been Liverpool's first back in the WSL since relegation in 2020 and they have never really looked in danger of making a swift return to the second tier. A more than respectable seventh place finish is all but mathematically certain regardless of the outcome in this game.

Melissa Lawley hasn't featured since April.

Liverpool have confirmed ahead of the game that Carla Humphrey, Rhiannon Roberts, Ashley Hodson, Leighanne Robe, Charlotte Clarke and Megan Campbell will leave the club this summer.

Man Utd team news

Centre-back Aoife Mannion has suffered what has been described as a 'small' MCL injury, having not long returned to action from a second career ACL. She is out of contention for this game but is expected to be fit within a few weeks and should still make it into Ireland's World Cup squad.

Maria Thorisdottir is still ruled out, while this is set to be Ona Batlle's last game for the club ahead of a summer switch to Barcelona. Alessia Russo is also out of contract next month but her future appears to be less cut and dry at this moment in time.

Liverpool vs Man Utd score prediction

Manchester United have to go all out to win this one. In the unlikely event that Chelsea lose to throw the door to the title wide open, there would be nothing worse than knowing Reading pulled off one of the biggest WSL shocks of all time and fail to take advantage of it.

United boss Marc Skinner repeatedly said in his pre-match press conference that the 6-0 win in the reverse fixture in January was a not a '6-0 game' and is expecting this to be tighter. He also has a lot of respect for Liverpool counterpart Matt Beard, who was not happy with the performance in that thrashing and has masterminded a win over Chelsea this season.

It will be a closer game than 6-0, but United should still take maximum points.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-2 Man Utd
