Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate has laughed off suggestions fellow Frenchman Kylian Mbappe could move to Anfield this summer.

Mbappe has confirmed he will leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires at the end of the campaign but has not yet struck an agreement with any club, leaving fans free to speculate about his future.

While Real Madrid remain the overwhelming favourites to secure Mbappe's signature, Liverpool have long been touted as potential suitors, but Konate does not expect his side to get a deal over the line.

"In all honesty, do you really think he's coming [to Liverpool]?" he laughed to Canal+ after Saturday's 4-1 victory over Brentford. "I think we all know where he's going.

"So no, we're not thinking about him in this team. I haven't even tried to bring him here."

Before the game, manager Jurgen Klopp had played down the chances of Liverpool moving for Mbappe.

"Obviously, I’m not involved in that, but I can tell you I’d be surprised if all the top clubs were [in for him]," Klopp said. "The top clubs I know, for most of them it will be tricky - wages, signing-on fee."

Klopp also shot down a possible move to Anfield for Mbappe back in August, admitting the finances involved were simply too much for Liverpool to handle.

Madrid have submitted an offer to Mbappe similar to the terms offered back in 2022 - a €30m annual salary before bonuses, plus a €130m signing-on fee - but the French forward has not yet accepted any proposal on the table.
