There's a rather swift turnaround for the Carabao Cup victors as they play host Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday night.

Virgil van Dijk's late extra-time winner secured Jurgen Klopp his first piece of silverware during the German's farewell tour and Liverpool harbour hopes of ending 2023/24 with multiple additions to their trophy cabinet.

Their FA Cup campaign continues in midweek against the second-tier Saints, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Klopp is likely to once again be without an endless list of core players on Wednesday, and here's how he could set his Liverpool side up.

Virgil van Dijk

GK: Caoimhin Kelleher - One of several Liverpool heroes on Sunday, Kelleher was absolutely outstanding in Alisson's absence as the Reds claimed the Carabao Cup.

RB: Conor Bradley - The young full-back has been a revelation and should return to right-back on Wednesday having been forced to play further forward for much of Sunday's game.

CB: Jarell Quansah - Quansah has gained plenty of experience at the heart of Liverpool's defence this season and he should come back into the XI on Wednesday having featured in extra-time at the weekend.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - Konate was once again superb against Chelsea. It's a toss-up between the Frenchman and stalwart Virgil van Dijk for a spot alongside Quansah.

LB: Andy Robertson - Klopp does at least have all of his left-back options available and he should stick with the Scot, who's slowly working his way up to his very best form.

CM: Wataru Endo - You all laughed at Liverpool when they signed Endo in the summer having missed out on preferred targets. Well, you're not laughing now, are you?

CM: Alexis Mac Allister - Mac Allister has struck a harmonious midfield dynamic with Endo and Klopp will likely retain the Argentine's experience.

CM: Bobby Clark - Clark is surely in line for his 10th senior appearance on Wednesday given the likely absences of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

RW: Harvey Elliott - Elliott recently celebrated his 100th Liverpool appearance, and he's become more important than ever to Klopp's Reds.

ST: Cody Gakpo - The Dutchman came close on a couple of occasions before Van Dijk headed home the all-important winner at Wembley. Klopp will once again turn to Gakpo to take responsibility given Liverpool's injuries up top.

LW: Luis Diaz - Having played all 120 minutes on Sunday, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Diaz drop out of the XI. But who could come in and play down the left?
