Liverpool & Manchester City book their places in Champions League semi-finals
Liverpool and Manchester City have joined La Liga sides Real Madrid and Villarreal in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
The Reds bested Benfica 6-4 on aggregate over two legs to set up a final four clash with Villarreal, while Man City held firm at the Wanda Metropolitano to seal a 1-0 aggregate win over Champions League stalwarts Atletico Madrid to set up a clash with Real Madrid.
In making it through to the semi-finals, Liverpool become only the second English club to reach 12 European Cup or Champions League semi-finals - a record held along with Manchester United.
Due to the way the draw was made, Liverpool can now face 'rivals' (a debate for another time) Man City in what would be an astonishing all-English Champions League final - the fourth all-English final in the competition's history.
Meanwhile, if Real Madrid and Villarreal manage to make it through to the showpiece event, it'll also be the fourth time an all-Spanish tie graced the final.
The following are the dates for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals:
- Liverpool vs Villarreal - 27 April
- Man City vs Real Madrid - 27 April
- Villarreal vs Liverpool - 4 May
- Real Madrid vs Man City - 4 May
The final is set to be played on 28 May at the Stade de France in Paris.
