Chelsea left Anfield with a precious point on Saturday evening, after playing the entire second half down to 10 men in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The Reds started the game strongly, but the wind was knocked out of their sails on 22 minutes, when Kai Havertz met Mason Mount's corner, flicking a looping header beyond Alisson Becker and into the far corner of the net.

Liverpool were awarded the chance to level proceedings when Reece James blocked a clear goalscoring opportunity on the line with his arm, earning himself a red card in the process, and Mohamed Salah tucked away the resulting spot-kick.

Jurgen Klopp's side pushed for an early goal in the second half, and Diogo Jota came close with a header from Salah's delicious cross, only for the ball to fly over the bar. Virgil van Dijk then had a pop, but Edouard Mendy was able to turn the shot away.

The Reds threw everything at the Chelsea backline, but the Blues stood firm, meaning both sides had to settle for a point at Anfield.

Here are the player ratings from the big match.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alisson Becker (GK) - 6/10 - Nothing he could do to stop Havertz's header looping into the net. Little else to do as Liverpool dominated the rest of the game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) - 8/10 - Stunning ball over the top to find Henderson. Beckham-esque. So bold with his driving runs into the Chelsea half.

Joel Matip (CB) - 7/10 - Turned like a bottle top by Lukaku, trying to reach the ball first. Hit the crossbar with a header, resulting in the spot-kick.

Virgil van Dijk (CB) - 8/10 - Enjoyed a fierce battle with Lukaku, like two heavyweight boxers going to war. Great block to stop the Belgian's goal-bound strike.

Andy Robertson (LB) - 7/10 - Switched off and didn't follow Havertz for the opening goal. Charged up and down the pitch, doing everything in his power to create chances from wide.

2. Midfielders

Harvey Elliott (CM) - 6/10 - Sent Mendy scrambling with a strike from distance. Just past the post. Brave in possession, always looking to break the lines.

Fabinho (CM) - 7/10 - Set the tone with a robust challenge on Havertz early on. Allowed the German to get the header in to open the scoring - very sloppy.

Jordan Henderson (CM) - 7/10 - Squandered a great chance by miscuing a volley when free at the far post. Got to do better. Went close with a 25-yard curler.

3. Forwards

Mohamed Salah (RW) - 7/10 - A quiet first half, and was frustrated that he couldn't get the better of his man. Cool as you like dispatching the penalty. Nerves of steal.

Roberto Firmino (ST) - 6/10 - Brought into the side to disrupt Jorginho at the base of Chelsea's midfield. Subbed just before half-time. Can only assume he picked up a knock.

Sadio Mane (LW) - 7/10 - Almost escaped his marker's notice a couple of times in the first half, but the ball never quite fell for him. A threat.

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 8/10 - So fast off his line to sweep up and smash the ball to safety. Couldn't stop the penalty and lost his head in the aftermath. Made a string of excellent saves in the second half.

Cesar Azpilicueta (CB) - 7/10 - Led the complaints over the penalty and red card, but he was changing no one's mind. Looked less comfortable after Jota's introduction.

Andreas Christensen (CB) - 8/10 - Kept a watchful eye on Salah and Mane's infield darts. Had to dig in as Liverpool went all-out attack in the second half. So solid.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 8/10 - Got away with a horrible piece of control in his own box. Booked for his part in the penalty protests. Brilliant piece of defending to stop Salah from doubling the lead. Resolute.

6. WIng-Backs & Midfielders

Reece James (RWB) - 6/10 - Looked to have done well to clear the ball off the line, but used his arm in the process, resulting in a penalty and a red card. A shame, but them's the rules.

Jorginho (CM) - 8/10 - Started the game excellently, showing his combative side and refusing to allow Liverpool to settle. Had to really sit and protect as the Reds ran riot. Won some valuable free-kicks late on.

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 7/10 - Robbed his man on countless occasions, pinching possession and breaking at speed with the ball at his feet. Subbed at half-time.

Marcos Alonso (LWB) - 7/10 - Did excellently to marshal Salah, reading cross-field balls and not allowing the Egyptian the chance to cut inside. Much more defensive in the second half.

7. Forwards

Kai Havertz (RW) - 7/10 - Brilliant looping header to beat Alisson and find the far corner of the net. Unreachable. Sacrificed at half-time as Chelsea changed shape after the red card.

Romelu Lukaku (ST) - 6/10 - Caused a few nerves around Anfield with charging runs towards goal. Got his feet tangled a couple of times. Rolled Matip with frightening ease. Pretty isolated throughout.

Mason Mount (LW) - 7/10 - Beautiful turn to escape Matip and win a free-kick. A truly stunning piece of skill. Delivered the corner to break the deadlock. Flashed a shot wide when through on goal. Worked hard for the cause in the second half.

Thiago Silva (CB) - 7/10
