Leicester City are thought to have rekindled their interest in Celtic's Callum McGregor, and are preparing to make a bid for the midfielder.

The 27-year-old signed a new long-term deal last summer after Brendan Rodgers showed interest in reuniting with McGregor at King Power Stadium, as the Bhoys weren't keen to lose him in addition to Kieran Tierney, who swapped Glasgow for London.

But the Foxes may now be hoping a second bite at the cherry does the trick, with Football Insider reporting that a £20m bid is in the offing.

Leicester have plenty of money to spend after selling Ben Chilwell to Chelsea for a fee approaching £50m, and relaunching interest in McGregor is one way of strengthening their squad ahead of their participation in next season's Europa League.

Apart from a loan spell with Notts County in the 2013/14 season, McGregor has been at Celtic his entire career and played under Rodgers when he was in charge of the Scottish giants.

Speaking to The Herald after signing a new deal last summer, McGregor admitted he could become a one-club man - which could scupper a deal unless he's had a change of heart.

"It’s a real possibility. It’s a massive statement from the club. Obviously, I really value how highly they regard me," he said at the time. "I am certainly looking forward to the next few years. Hopefully we can extend that even further and I could end up finishing my career at Celtic.

"It shows I am well regarded at the club when they hand you a big, big contract at this point. For me, it’s about trying to repay the club and keep playing well."

The midfielder also revealed he received a message from the current Leicester City boss congratulating him on his new deal, adding: "He texted me just to say ‘congratulations, you really deserve it.'

“He said he was happy for me. I just sent him a text back saying ‘thanks very much for everything you have done as well’.”

Rodgers has also been linked with a move for two of McGregor's teammate - defender Kristoffer Ajer, and prolific striker Odsonne Edouard. Both may be interested in making the move south, after Celtic crashed out of the Champions League at the qualification stage - losing to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
