Leicester 2-4 Tottenham: Players ratings as Foxes miss out on Champions League spot

Leicester City blew their chances of qualifying for the Champions League for the second season running, squandering a 2-1 lead to eventually lose 4-2 to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jamie Vardy looked fired up from the first whistle and early on he was brought down in the box by Toby Alderweireld. After a VAR check a penalty was given and Leicester's number nine made no mistake from the spot.

Just before the break Spurs drew level with Harry Kane finishing superbly, strengthening his Premier League Golden Boot chances in the process.

The Foxes then restored their advantage early in the second half. Again, Vardy was at the centre of things, being hauled down by Davinson Sanchez before converting from 12-yards. They were pegged back again 13 minutes from time with Kasper Schmeichel flapping a corner into his own net.

In the closing stages, substitute Gareth Bale scored twice to give his side a 4-2 victory. The result means Tottenham will be playing in the Europa Conference League next season after finishing seventh. What a treat.

Leicester City

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 4/10 - What was he doing? That terrible and costly mistake is a major blot on his impressive season.

Timothy Castagne (RB) - 6/10 - Looked pretty solid throughout. He has proved to a be a great signing and will return to the X next season.

Wesley Fofana (CB) - 7/10 - Heartbreakingly forced off with 20 minutes gone with in his eyes. What an incredible first season.

Caglar Soyuncu (CB) - 6/10 - A shaky start but he recovered well. Made several vital interventions. His defending for the last goal is worthy of a prison sentence, though.

Luke Thomas (LB) - 7/10 - Brilliant defensively and going forward. He should start next campaign.

2. Wing Backs & Midfielders

Marc Albrighton (RM) - 6/10 - His delivery was good and he ran his socks off.

Youri Tielemans (CM) - 6/10 - Picked up the mantle from Ndidi when he moved into defence, completing six tackles. Lacked a bit of creativity from deep at times.

Wilfred Ndidi (CM) - 6/10 - Moved to centre-back after Fofana's injury, which is where he started the season. Did fine.

James Maddison (LM) - 5/10 - Continued his meek end to the season. His injury has clearly affected him.

3. Forwards

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST) - 4/10 - Looked poor. Touch was dodgy and he spurned a few presentable chances. Fell over a comical amount of times as well.

Jamie Vardy (ST) - 8/10 - Fired up from the off in front of home fans. Showed incredible composure to convert TWICE from the spot.

4. Substitutes

Nampalys Mendy - 6/10 - Came on and slotted in nicely. Offering him a new deal in the summer has proved to be inspired.

Ricardo Pereira - 5/10 - A pretty meagre cameo. Hopefully a full pre-season gets him back on form.

Ayoze Perez - 5/10 - Ineffectual.

Tottenham Hotspur

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - 5/10 - Not a huge amount to do, other than the penalties. Not diving for the second made him look silly.

Matt Doherty (RB) - 7/10 - Solid. He helped keep the ball alive in the build up to Spurs' first equaliser.

Davinson Sanchez (CB) - 5/10 - Presumably brought on to deal with Vardy's pace and the number nine gave him the runaround. Was at fault for both penalties.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - 5/10 - A few clumsy passes and conceded the first penalty.

Sergio Reguilon (LB) - 6/10 - Looked bizarrely uncomfortable in possession early on, giving the ball away several times under little pressure. Grew into things in the second half, pushing up frequently.

6. Midfielders

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 6/10 - Seemed to have run out of steam after a long season. Kept things simple on the ball.

Harry Winks (CM) - 6/10 - Got through a lot of defensive but his passing was a bit off. Committed the most cynical foul of all-time late in the second half.

Dele Alli (AM) - 7/10 - A couple of well-weighted passes in behind. Will be interesting to see what role he plays next season.

7. Forwards

Steven Bergwijn (RW) - 5/10 - Quiet. Needs to up his productivity next season, badly.

Harry Kane (ST) - 8/10 - Finished ridiculously well in the first half. Was central to most of Spurs' best moves. A future without him is a scary thought.

Son Heung-min (LW) - 7/10 - A few dangerous run in behind. Missed a great chance in the first half but then set up Kane for the equaliser.

8. Substitutes

Gareth Bale - 9/10 - Grabbed the winner, finishing calmly. Then scored again.

Lucas Moura - 6/10 - Little of note.
