Leeds claimed a dramatic victory over Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Tuesday night as Raphinha scored a penalty in injury time to give the home side just their third Premier League win of the season.

It was an enjoyable end-to-end fixture in the first half as both sides looked for the opener, though the game settled down more in the second period with it looking likely to end in a draw.

Substitute Christian Benteke spurned a glorious chance for the visitors, heading wide at the back post, before Marc Guehi was penalised in injury time for handball after referee Kevin Friend checked with VAR for an offence.

The penalty was given, and Raphinha kept his cool from the spot, striking past Vicente Guaita to earn his side a massive win at the bottom end of the table.

Leeds are now 15th in the Premier League, a point behind Palace up in 12th.

LEEDS PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Liam Cooper

Illan Meslier (GK) - 6/10 - Looked in trouble when a Benteke prod seemed to have wrong-footed him, but he recovered well.

Stuart Dallas (RB) - 7/10 - Indefatigable. Right-back is really just a placeholder. Dallas charged all over the pitch like he usually does, having a positive impact at both ends of the pitch. Did get booked, though.

Diego Llorente (CB) - 7/10 - Made some important interventions and did well in the air.

Liam Cooper (CB) - 8/10 - Was late with a few challenges - one on Zaha in particular stood out - but was a giant in the air, winning six aerial duels. Headed the ball onto Guehi's arm for the penalty.

Pascal Struijk (LB) - 4/10 - Brief moment of concern when VAR checked a possible foul on Jordan Ayew, but he got away with it. Was evidently struggling at left-back, mainly because he's 6'3 and not a left-back. Booked for tussling with Ayew, picked up an injury and was off at half-time.

2. Midfielders

Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips (DM) - 7/10 - Burst through midfield and saw a strike from distance sail just over the crossbar. Got the crowd going when he surged forward but maybe could have taken more control of the match.

Adam Forshaw (CM) - 6/10 - Worked some space on the edge of the box but shot straight at Guaita. Pretty tidy, booked in injury time.

Mateusz Klich (CM) - 5/10 - Didn't make much of an impact. Can impress with his goalscoring instincts from midfield but the ball didn't fall for him here. Taken off at half-time.

3. Forwards

Raphinha (RW) - 7/10 - Took a few rough challenges from Palace players. Proved to be the match winner as he stepped up to cooly convert the penalty.

Tyler Roberts (ST) - 6/10 - Got through some pressing and held the ball up well at times, also making two key passes. Booked.

Daniel James (LW) - 7/10 - Set up a great chance for Rodrigo with some fine work down the left. Was happy smashing the ball up the wing and chasing it. Much better than his outing at Brighton on Saturday.

4. Substitutes

Rodrigo (AM) - 5/10 - Missed a good chance to break the deadlock when he couldn't find a shot to beat Guaita.

Junio Firpo (LB) - 5/10 - Made a poor start, clipping Ayew and picking up a booking.

Charlie Cresswell (CB) - N/A - Bolstered the backline after Raphinha's winner.

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Vicente Guaita (GK) - 6/10 - Got done by Raphinha's stuttered run up on the penalty. Made a couple of saves.

Joel Ward (RB) - 6/10 - Booked for fouling James. Made five recoveries in defence.

James Tomkins (CB) - 5/10 - Didn't push into Leeds' half too often and wasn't that good in the air.

Marc Guehi (CB) - 4/10 - Pretty harshly penalised for handball when the incident happened incredibly quickly. Pretty wasteful with the ball too, so not a great night all in all.

Tyrick Mitchell (LB) - 7/10 - Made six tackles and was probably the best of Palace's defenders.

6. Midfielders

Conor Gallagher

Cheikhou Kouyate (CM) - 7/10 - Got through some good defensive work, covering well for his teammates. Took a whack but was probably Palace's best player on the night.

Jeffrey Schlupp (CM) - 6/10 - Played more centrally than usual and looked to contribute in attack, seeing one shot go off target.

Conor Gallagher (CM) - 6/10 - Booked for bringing down Raphinha. A bit wasteful when presented with decent opportunities.

7. Forwards

Wilfried Zaha

Jordan Ayew (RW) - 7/10 - Had a penalty appeal rejected. Caused problems for both Struijk and Firpo down Leeds' left. Just couldn't find any end product despite looking the most likely to score for Palace.

Wilfried Zaha (ST) - 6/10 - A few nice moments with the ball at his feet to create space. Got a couple of shots off but couldn't provide the telling moment he so often does for Palace.

Odsonne Edouard (LW) - 5/10 - Couldn't get any shots away and was later replaced by Christian Benteke. Took his goal drought to six games.

8. Substitutes

Christian Benteke (ST) - 5/10 - Missed a brilliant opportunity at the back stick, one which probably would have won Palace the game.

Will Hughes (CM) - N/A - Came on for the last ten.

Michael Olise (RW) - N/A - Subbed on in injury time.
