Lazio have been left hanging on Manchester City's David Silva, who has yet to confirm his transfer and has not responded to the club's messages, according to a report in Italy.
The 34-year-old recently played his final Premier League game for the Sky Blues on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign, but remains an integral part of their Champions League squad, with the club currently preparing for Saturday's quarter-final clash with Lyon.
While he has yet to publicly confirm his next destination, it was thought that the midfielder would be heading to Lazio once the Citizens' involvement in Europe ends.
However, a report from Corriere dello Sport has claimed that the move is now in doubt, due to a collapse in communication between the Serie A club and player.
According to the Italian newspaper, the Spaniard did not respond to the Biancocelesti on Thursday, failing to give the transfer his seal of approval by not sending 'a signature or an email'. They are said to be anxious about the deal's completion, while all talks seem to have been postponed until after City's quarter-final.
Silva, whose representatives initially asked for additional time before sealing off communications, is still considering the contracts that he's been given. The publication reports that his brother Nando Jimenez has appointed a 'pool of lawyers' tasked with studying the offers in depth, with a greater focus on the aspects related to taxation.
It has caused worry among Lazio's club officials, who are currently planning their summer strategy for the transfer market, and need an answer to confirm his commitment for next season. The lack of word coming out of the player's camp has left them in limbo, unsure whether they can press on with their other targets.
While the transfer to Simone Inzaghi's side was thought to be a done deal, it may be possible that another team has since moved into the picture to sign the 34-year-old.
90min reported exclusively in July that his former side Valencia are thought to be targeting his signing, while Corriere dello Sport mentions in the same report that Napoli has also been linked with a move.
