Lamine Yamal has played down rumours of a potential rift between himself and Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski berated the 16-year-old Yamal during a recent narrow 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves in La Liga, with the incident occurring after the youngster opted to have a pop at goal instead of playing the ball to his veteran teammate.

Yamal quickly ran across the pitch to reach a hand out in apology, however the Polish striker appeared to internationally blank him.

This incident led to criticism of how Lewandowski had treated his 16-year-old teammate and how he's helping mentor Barca's young stars.

Speaking after the game, however, Lewandowski was keen to insist that he had not ignored Yamal, labelling the incident a "total accident" and arguing there was nothing surprising about two players shouting at each other.

"I spoke a lot with him and gave him advice, also in that game," Lewandowski reflected.

While on international duty with Spain and following a game in which he scored his second senior goal for his nation in a 3-1 victory over Cyprus, Yamal also moved to put rumours of a rift in the team to bed.

"He has already explained it, these are things that happen on the field," Yamal told the media. "He is just another teammate and there is no problem."

After another round of international fixtures during the week - Spain face Georgia on Sunday and Poland face Czech Republic on Tuesday - Yamal and Lewandowski will return to domestic action with Barcelona against mid-table dwellers Rayo Vallecano.

Barca head into that game four points adrift of shock La Liga leaders Girona, and two points behind El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.
