La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed Spanish clubs earn on par with their Premier League counterparts in response to Real Madrid's persistent complaints about the revenue gap between the two divisions.

Los Blancos were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek to English side Manchester City, who breezed to a 4-0 win on the night and a 5-1 success on aggregate.

Man City's wealth is well known and Real president Florentino Perez has spoken frequently about his club's shortfall in revenue in comparison to the Premier League champions.

However, Tebas insisted the playing field is level, stating: "Our clubs on national television earn the same as those in the Premier League. Madrid cries a lot and they cry a lot...but it's not true, they earn the same as those in the Premier [League].

"That is why when the teams with the highest income in the world come out, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona come out the first. I don't know what else they want."

Tebas also spoke about Real's involvement in the proposed European Super League. On his relationship with Perez, he added: "I have known the president of Real Madrid for many years, I have had many meetings with him, and I know what he thinks of Spanish and European football. He thinks Real Madrid should no longer play on certain fields in Spain, because they want to play in a major league.

"The excuse he uses to leave is that La Liga is very weak and not enough revenue is generated to support the big clubs.

"There are many years in which I have had a very good Florentino relationship, bad and very bad, as it can be now. I know what his thoughts are about what he wants from football, but he cheats on the issue of the Super League because you end up killing the national product and he knows it because he is not stupid."
