After a draw 1-1 on Monday against the Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy’s playoff hopes are still alive.

LA Galaxy are currently 7th place on the Western Conference table with 47 points, just one behind 5th and 6th place Minnesota United and Vancouver Whitecaps.

With a win over Minnesota, LA Galaxy can clinch a playoff bid. A draw would require either draws or losses from both LAFC and Real Salt Lake in order to stay alive. A loss on Sunday, the Galaxy are out unless LAFC and Real Salt Lake both lose.

After a massive 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City, Minnesota United are in a more favorable position than the Galaxy. The Loons are 5th in the Western Conference, with 48 points, and can clinch a third consecutive playoff bid.

A win or draw against the Galaxy puts MNUFC back into the playoffs. Should they lose, there are several scenarios in which they can still make the postseason. If Vancouver loses and either Real Salt Lake or LAFC lose or draw, or both Real Salt Lake and LAFC lose and draw, Minnesota can still secure a spot.

Osvaldo Alonso is suspended for the match with LA Galaxy due to yellow card accumulation.

LA Galaxy vs Minnesota United FC head to head record

Minnesota United have struggled with LA Galaxy since joining MLS in 2017. The Galaxy hold a 5-1-2 advantage over the Loons in the all-time series. This season, the teams have split the two previous meetings, with LA winning 1-0 in Minnesota on August 14th, and Minnesota winning 3-0 at home on September 18th.

LA Galaxy vs Minnesota United FC score prediction

While the teams split the season series, the third meeting is the most important for both sides. While both teams are currently in the playoff picture as it stands, a negative result for either side on Sunday could spell disaster. Tensions will be high in Southern California on Sunday, and both teams will fight tooth and nail to keep their seasons alive. The intensity will be as even as the season series to date, and the score could be as well.

Prediction: LA Galaxy 1-1 Minnesota United FC
