LA Galaxy appoints Will Kuntz as senior vice president of player personnel

After six seasons with LAFC, Will Kuntz will join rivals LA Galaxy as senior vice president of player personnel.
He will now oversee salary cap management, club development, immigration processes, the execution of player and personnel contracts, and technical administration with Galaxy president Chris Klein and head coach Greg Vanney.
"Will has proven to be a successful executive in MLS with a winning mentality who we know will bring critical knowledge and experience to our organization," Vanney said in a release. "We look forward to his contributions to our soccer operations and are excited to start working together as we continue the process of building a championship-winning team."
Kuntz also acted as senior vice president of soccer operations and assistant general manager at LAFC, collaborating with co-president and general manager John Thorrington to manage the squads that lifted the MLS Cup in 2022 and two Supporters’ Shields.
He is now set to help the LA Galaxy return to winning ways, after seeing a recent decline in form under Klein and Vanney. The team has qualified to the playoffs just twice between 2017 and 2022, failing to meet the expectations of a once record-breaking club.
The 2023 MLS campaign seems to be following the negative pattern, as the Galaxy sit in 12th place on the Western Conference table with just three points in five games and zero victories. Though the team has seen certain injuries affect the roster, a 0W-3D-2L record does not match the caliber of the squad.
"Joining the LA Galaxy realizes a dream I’ve had since I first started working in MLS nine years ago. I have known Chris Klein and Greg Vanney for a long time and I believe not only in their vision for the club, but in their ability and commitment to making that vision a reality,” said Kuntz.
"I see the immense potential for the LA Galaxy to reclaim the top spot in the league, and I am excited to get to work and do my part to build a championship team for our players, fans and community."
Kuntz also arrives with experience at Major League Soccer, working for the league office for three years as director of player relations. He helped with “salary budget management, the development of strategic league initiatives and the negotiation of the 2015 MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement,” according to the league.
