Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has revealed Kylian Mbappe used to join him in watching Everton games at the team hotel.

Gueye excelled during a three-year spell with Everton before a switch to PSG in 2019, and he linked up with Mbappe for another three years before returning to the Toffees ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

During his time in France, Gueye would watch Everton games on his phone at the team hotel and he admitted to The Mirror that Mbappe used to take an active interest in the matches.

"Mbappe, yeah he would watch," said Gueye. "He liked to watch every game."

Another teammate, a certain Lionel Messi, wasn't nearly as interested in the Toffees.

"[Lionel] Messi, no. It was difficult for me because we were losing a lot and he would say, 'Bro come on you see your team is losing and playing like this?' but it was funny."

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with moves for Mbappe recently, while Chelsea have been touted as potential suitors in the past, but the Frenchman has long been expected to head to Real Madrid.

Having now confirmed his decision to leave PSG this summer, reports suggest Mbappe has agreed a contract with Madrid which will see him take home a cool €150m signing-on bonus.

"He'd be very welcome in Spain," France teammate and Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann told Le Monde. "I'd be very happy to play derbies against him."

Mbappe is said to have shaken hands on an annual salary of €15m - down from the €30m Madrid offered him in 2022. Such a figure would not even see Mbappe feature in the top five highest earners at the Santiago Bernabeu.
