Manchester City have completed the signing of Dutch international Kerstin Casparij from FC Twente ahead of the 2022/23 WSL season.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal that promises to keep her at the Academy Stadium until the summer of 2025.

Casparij is City's sixth new addition of a busy summer, following the earlier arrivals of Deyna Castellanos, Leila Ouahabi, Laia Aleixandri, Mary Fowler and Sandy MacIver.

“I’m overjoyed – I have no words to describe how happy I am to be a Manchester City player and I can’t wait to play for this beautiful club," said Casparij.

“I felt like the whole club is a family and the perfect fit for me – I immediately got such a good feeling about the place and it was a no brainer for me. I’m a modern right wingback and I feel as though I’ll fit into the Manchester City style very well, which makes this move the perfect one.”

The move will mark the first time that the Netherlands international has plied her trade outside of her home country, having previously had spells at Heerenveen, VV Alkmaar and Twente.

The versatile defender has represented her country at various international levels and, having made her senior bow in October 2021, was named in Mark Parsons' Euro 2022 squad. She featured three times as the Netherlands reached the quarter-finals.

“Kerstin is a very gifted young player and we’re so pleased to have been able to add her to our ranks," added City boss Gareth Taylor.

“She has a real infectious and positive personality too and we’re very much looking forward to integrating her into the rest of the squad and seeing her develop on the pitch.”
