Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe overcame a potentially awkward moment and were all smiles as they greeted each other at France's training camp on Monday.
Mbappe had been widely expected to join Benzema at Real Madrid this summer in a free transfer, but shocked the football world as he completed an unlikely U-turn by signing a new three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
That decision left Benzema with egg on his face because the current Real Madrid frontman has regularly talked up a move to the Bernabeu for his international teammate in recent months, with the kind of confidence that suggested he was convinced the deal would be done.
That wasn't the case though, and Benzema reacted to Mbappe's new contract with a cryptic social media post, uploading a picture of Tupac Shakur shaking hands with actor Stephen Baldwin - who allegedly betrayed the legendary rapper - to his Instagram story.
However, it seems all's well that ends well between the two prolific forwards, who greeted each other with a handshake, a hug and a smile as they were reunited on France duty on Monday.
Benzema may well have been in a slightly better mood following victory in the Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday night.
The France squad were also filmed giving the striker a round of applause for his exploits in the competition, following a speech from head coach Didier Deschamps.
Speaking after the victory in Paris, Benzema insisted his relationship with Mbappe would not be affected by his decision to reject Real Madrid.
"I would have liked him to have been able to fulfil his dream of playing for Real Madrid, being together," he told Telefoot.
"Real Madrid are Real Madrid, I'm not disappointed. We are good friends, it won't affect our relationship."
