Juventus host Milan on Sunday evening in a clash between two clubs enduring/enjoying dramatically contrasting starts to the new season.

Massimiliano Allegri's second spell at Juventus has emphatically adhered to the old Italian adage; reheated soup never tastes as good. One measly point from the club's first three Serie A matches - which included a first ever loss at home to newly promoted Empoli - leaves Juventus trailing Milan by eight points already.

Stefano Pioli's outfit, conversely, has seemingly improved upon the side that finished runners-up last season, winning all three of their league games as well bloodying Liverpool's nose on Champions League duty in midweek.

Juventus team news

Juve's 3-0 Champions League victory over Malmo in midweek provided some much-needed respite from a dreadful opening to the season. The return to training of former Fiorentina duo Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi ahead of Milan's visit is another welcome boost.

However, Arthur's Juventus career continues to stall as he is set to miss out with a muscle injury, the same ailment that is preventing compatriot Kaio Jorge from making his debut.

Milan team news

In a thrilling five-goal back and forth, Milan's first ever competitive visit to Anfield was missing one considerable element: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede was left out by the Rossoneri as a precaution due to an issue with his Achilles tendon pre-game, but may feature among Sunday's substitutes. Ibrahimovic scored 15 Serie A goals aged 39 last season but was only fit enough to appear in half of the league games.

Olivier Giroud, another veteran forward (although five years Zlatan's junior), was only fit enough for the bench against Liverpool but is expected to be available from the start come Sunday. His compatriot Tiemoue Bakayoko, conversely, is a doubt for the trip to Turin along with midfielder Rade Krunic.

Juventus vs Milan predicted lineups

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, De Ligt, Bonucci, Sandro; Bentancur, Locatelli, Rabiot; Dybala, Morata, Chiesa.

Milan: Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Rebic, Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

Juventus vs Milan head-to-head record

Arguably the peak of Milan's recent renaissance under Stefano Pioli was a 3-0 mauling they dished out to the dethroned champions in the final stages of the previous campaign, earning - a decade after it opened - their first ever victory at Juve's Allianz Stadium.

That lengthy wait for a win underlines the gaping chasm which has slowly been closed between the sides in recent years. Between 2013 and 2019, Juventus won 18 of 20 matches against Milan, comfortably the most dominant sequence either side has ever enjoyed in this fixture.

Juventus vs Milan score prediction

Juve and Milan share more than half of all the Serie A titles ever awarded but, for the first time in a decade, it's the Rossoneri that look closer to adding to that tally.

Allegri has recovered from a similarly perilous early season points deficit in recent memory, but the returning tactician looks a long way off stumbling upon the system that can spark such a swing in fortune. Milan, meanwhile, are looking very, very impressive.

Prediction: Juventus 1-2 Milan
