Juventus have confirmed they intend to pull out of the infamous European Super League project.

La Vecchia Signora were one of three clubs, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have remained committed to the Super League project announced in 2021.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid were the other nine clubs to initially sign up for the closed-off competition, before they backed out after a furious backlash from supporters.

But Juventus, who were rocked by a ten-point deduction towards the end of the 2022/23 Serie A season for alleged financial irregularities relating to transfers - they were also fined €718,000 - have announced that they now intend to pull away from the project.

“With reference to rumours that appeared in today’s press, Juventus Football Club S.pA (“Juventus or the “Company”) informs that it has transmitted a communication to the two remaining clubs that as Juventus, have not exercised their withdrawal from the Super League Project (Football Club Barcelona and Real Madrid Club de Futbol) in order to initiate a discussion period among the three clubs concerning the potential Juventus’ exit from the Super League Project."

Juve also insisted that rumours of UEFA threatening them with expulsion from European competition if they continued to pursue the Super League project were not true.

“The Company will proceed with any communications due under the law following the outcome of the interlocutions and evaluations regarding the above, clarifying that many of the reconstructed version published by the media about the contents of the communication (including any reference to alleged threats of potential sanctions by UEFA) are not true. For more information on the Super League Project, please refer to the press releases issued by the Company on 19 April and 21 April 2021.”

Further upheaval may be forthcoming at the Allianz Stadium as 90min understands there's significant doubt over the future of manager Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus are considering the Italian's position and have been alerted to the sudden availability of former defender Igor Tudor, who announced prior to Marseille's final game of the Ligue 1 season that he will leave the club this summer.
