Sassuolo ended a disjointed Juventus side's nine-game unbeaten run in dramatic fashion on Wednesday evening, netting a winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the Allianz Stadium.

The visitors took a surprise lead at the end of a half of few chances. Mattia Perin was forced into a good save 20 minutes in, tipping Domenico Berardi's low, curling effort around the post. Paulo Dybala had Juve's best effort - latching onto a loose ball and whipping a shot onto the outside of the post with real power.

The Bianconeri were caught cold one minute before the break, with Davide Frattesi running onto Gregoire Defrel's neat pass and slotting into the corner to finish off a fine move.

Juventus seemed to come to life after Giacomo Raspadori had come close to doubling Sassuolo's lead just before the hour mark. A minute after the young Italy international had dragged his shot wide, substitute Juan Cuadrado saw his drive blocked on the line, and moments later Dybala's shot was saved and Federico Chiesa headed the rebound over.

The hosts didn't look like equalising, but Weston McKennie rose highest to meet a perfect curling free kick from Dybala with a firm header 15 minutes from time.

While Juve searched for a winner, Sassuolo stunned the Allianz Stadium with one of their own in the fifth minute of injury time. The Neroverdi broke, and Berardi's sweeping cross-field pass was collected and coolly finished by Maxime Lopez, who lifted the ball over Perin. Scenes.

The result leaves the Old Lady down in seventh in Serie A, while Sassuolo climb to ninth.

Here's how the Juventus players rated...

JUVENTUS PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Mattia Perin (GK) - 6/10 - Excellent save to tip Berardi's curling effort wide. Not much chance with the opening goal. Got a hand to the second, but nothing doing.

Danilo (RB) - 5/10 - Not worked overly hard on his wing, but didn't contribute going forward. Subbed.

Leonardo Bonucci (CB) - 5/10 - Missed an absolute sitter early on, but saved by the flag. Some loose passing and didn't get close enough to Defrel in the build-up to the opener. Way, way out of position for the second. Naive.

Matthijs de Ligt (CB) - 6/10 - Perfect challenge in the penalty area to deny a goalscoring opportunity in the first half. Perhaps should have closed Frattesi down for Sassuolo's goal.

Mattia De Sciglio (LB) - N/A - Almost lobbed the keeper with an early cross. Hurt himself when he made a full-blooded tackle on Davide Frattesi 12 minutes in and was forced off.

2. Midfielders

Federico Chiesa (RM) - 6/10 - Floated around the forward areas menacingly. Swapped wings to facilitate Juan Cuadrado's introduction in the second half. Should have scored his header after the keeper saved from Dybala. Not his electric best.

Weston McKennie (CM) - 7/10 - Ran hard but sloppy in possession and often unable to affect play. Popped up when it mattered to head in the equaliser.

Manuel Locatelli (CM) - 6/10 - Facing his former side for the first time since his summer move. Didn't track Frattesi's run for the goal. Generally pretty quiet and unable to dictate the tempo, though. Subbed.

Adrien Rabiot (LM) - N/A - Barely involved in the first half apart from a blocked shot. Subbed at half-time for a more attacking option.

3. Forwards

Paulo Dybala (ST) - 7/10 - Popped up to whip the ball onto the post after a quiet first period. Tested the keeper early in the second half before providing a perfect free-kick assist for McKennie.

Alvaro Morata (ST) - 5/10 - Huffed and puffed but didn't really have a sniff before being subbed on the hour mark.

4. Substitutes

Alex Sandro (LB) - 6/10 - Probably could have done more to cut out the passing move that led to the opener. Half-chance to level, but flicked his header over.

Juan Cuadrado (RM) - 6/10 - Booked for an untidy challenge. Typically busy and unfortunate to see his shot blocked on the line. Aimless cross led to match-winning breakaway.

Kaio Jorge (ST) - 7/10 - Acrobatic effort flew wide. Made a difference after coming on.

Arthur (CM) - N/A

Dejan Kulusevski (RWB) - N/A
