Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked that he has 'no idea' who will be playing for him next season, after being asked for the 10,658th time to comment on speculation surrounding a move for Thiago Alcantara.

Despite the universal agreement among virtually everyone connected to the club that any major additions to such a settled squad are highly unlikely in the wake of a worldwide pandemic,, links with Bayern playmaker Thiago are refusing to go away.

Earlier this month, the Reds were said to be 'very close' to a deal with the German champions, while Bild recently went as far as to claim that Klopp has personally asked the Liverpool hierarchy to make a deal happen.

With his characteristic affable charm, Klopp has already brushed off multiple questions about a move for the Spain international, and thanks to the good folk over at Sky Germany, we've got another non-committal response to bring you.

“I have no idea who will play for me next year, there is nothing to say at the moment," Klopp said.

“Thiago Alcantara is a great player, but also a Bayern Munich player. That’s actually all there is to say. There’s nothing to say!”

So...you're telling us there's a chance?

In all seriousness, the chances of Thiago arriving at Anfield any time soon seem very slim. Reports that he is holding out for more than £200,000 per week on any new Bayern deal suggest he would instantly become one of the club's highest earners, and given that Liverpool very rarely offer over £100,000 per week as a starting salary, the numbers don't really add up.

Throw into the blender that Thiago is 29, injury prone, and would directly get in the way of Naby Keita and Curtis Jones' developments into established first-team players, and...well, yeah.

Still, maybe if we ask Klopp enough times, he'll change his mind.
