Jurgen Klopp has affirmed his belief that Liverpool's performance in their 6-1 demolition of Leeds United on Monday was the best performance they've put in all season.

The Reds have endured a rather miserable campaign following their successful 2021/22 season, falling way below expectations and in desperate need of a squad rebuild.

They managed to put their crisis to one side on Monday with a dominant display at Elland Road, hitting struggling Leeds for six.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez grabbed goals either side of braces from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, while Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to form with a pair of assists.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Klopp was full of praise for his side's efforts.

"I think it's the best game we've played this season from all different perspectives," Klopp said. "We forced a lot of errors, sensational goals and counter-pressing, the best game for long time.

"There were a couple of tough moments, we conceded an unnecessary goal, but these things happen. Apart from that we were in control of the game."

Liverpool hammered rivals Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield back in March, but Klopp doubled down on his belief that the showing at Leeds was their most complete performance, insisting it isn't always about how many goals you score.

"I'm not bothered about scoring six, it's about the performance. This was a winning performance," he added. "We can be super offensive orientated if we react in the right moment. I can't explain why our counter-pressing didn't work [earlier this season], but tonight it clicked.

"I'm not sure how many goals we scored after we won the ball back - that makes all the difference."

Liverpool's biggest and best wins in 2022/23

The 2022/23 season won't be one that Liverpool fans will fondly remember, especially when compared to the glorious successes of previous campaigns.

But while there is need of fresh impetus at Anfield, the Reds have still managed to sparkle at times this year with some unbelievable scoring displays and important wins against quality opposition.
