LA Galaxy stands as one of the most historic and successful sides in Major League Soccer

As one of 10 founding members of the American league, the Western Conference giants have worked hard to become the best.

Since 1994, the Galaxy have won five championships, more than any other MLS club, four Supporters’ Shields and two US Open cups. Beyond silverware, the team revolutionized American soccer when signing the likes of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Chicharito.

Players are well aware of the team’s prestige when signing, and Julian Araujo was no exception. The Mexican-American first joined the Galaxy in 2019, working himself through the Academy and LA Galaxy 2 before debuting with the senior squad.

Now, on his fourth season with the club, Araujo took to 90min's Football Americana to explain what makes the Galaxy so special from a player’s perspective.

“I think we're just original. I think we're very authentic. I think we're like a family. We feel very connected with our fans. I think the difference between us and a lot of other teams is we have a big responsibility. We have five championships. We play for a big city. We play for fans that will die for us. We have that, and we all know that.

“Whoever comes to the Galaxy, whoever signs for the Galaxy knows that we're coming to win a championship. It's not, you're coming to compete for something. You're coming to be a contender to win a championship. And Greg, our coach, made it very clear on us when we were playing LA FC. When you come here, you're representing a very big club. You're representing a crest,” he stated.

And the team is going for their sixth championship this season, kicking off the 2022 MLS campaign with 13 points in seven games to sit in third place of the Western Conference table. But the pressure is on for Araujo as he works to prove himself weekly to maintain a starting role under head coach Greg Vanney.

“We have five championships for a reason, and it's a very big responsibility. And we got to play like it every single game. We know the pressure that we have, and it's a beautiful thing. I love to play under pressure. I think it brings the best out of you.

“I think it's a beautiful thing. And honestly, it could be a horrible thing if you lose a lot of games. But the beautiful thing is when it's beautiful, it's beautiful. But yeah, I definitely think that we're very authentic and we're very real about it,” he added.

With full steam ahead, LA Galaxy returns to the pitch on Saturday when facing Nashville SC.
