Jozy Altidore returns to Toronto’s BMO Field as a second-half sub for the New England Revolution in 2–0 Revs victory.

Home is where your heart is and for veteran striker and former U.S. international Altidore, home will always be Toronto.

“It felt good man,” Altidore told MLSSoccer.com after the match. “This is home for me. I saw so many friends, basically family last night, so it was really nice to be home. I will definitely be back here living, or something at some point. It just felt good to see everybody, just be around family – family – here.”

Altidore spent seven seasons in Toronto and has scored the second-most goals in the club's history with 79 - behind Sebastian Giovinco’s 83. He was instrumental in their MLS Cup finals runs – three between 2016 and 2019 – which included a treble in 2017 and a CONCACAF Champions League final.

Even though they dropped to Mexican side Guadalajara in penalties, it was goals from Altidore and Giovinco that tied the away goals difference.

Altidore, who subbed in on the 61st minute to a warm reception from the Canadians, had an awkward exit from the team in 2022 with two years left in his Designated Player contract. A situation he insists is well behind him, even going as far as rooting for his former team to focus on rising from the bottom of the Eastern Conference table and reimagine their strategy for 2023.

“I hope they get it together because TFC’s a top club. Whether I’m there or not, it needs to be at the top of the table. It’s just plain and simple, that’s not good enough,” Altidore said. “I hope they can figure it out because I’m still a fan of Toronto FC. I watch every game, I love the boys, and that’s not going to change.”

Call it a political statement if you will but for now, Altidore’s future is in New England, even with his votes in Ontario’s capital city secured.
