Jozy Altidore completes loan transfer from NE Revs to Liga MX side Club Puebla

Jozy Altidore has completed his loan move from the New England Revolution to Liga MX side Club Puebla.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Thursday that the 115-time United States international was closing in on a transfer to Puebla, with MLSsoccer.com later adding that it would be a loan move.

Puebla announced the arrival of Altidore on Thursday evening, while the Revs released a short statement on Friday morning confirming the loan will run through December 31, 2022.

"Very good and very happy, I always had an eye on Liga MX," Altidore told TV Azteca upon signing for Puebla. "I come with a lot of desire to enjoy, score goals and help my team. Everyone knows that Liga MX is very strong, and it is still a little stronger than MLS, but MLS is growing every year. They are very similar and very strong."

Altidore is not the first American to represent Puebla, joining fellow ex-USMNT stars DaMarcus Beasley and Herculez Gomez at Estadio Cuauhtémoc.

The 32-year-old pushed for the move in order to secure more playing time, with the 32-year-old starting just four of his 17 MLS appearances this season, scoring once.

Altidore initially found himself behind Polish striker Adam Buksa in the pecking order after signing for the Revs earlier this year.

And even since Buksa departed for French side Lens, the Revs depended on Gustavo Bou and Justin Rennicks up top, as well as Albania international Giacomo Vrioni, who recently arrived on a Designated Player contract from Juventus.
