Premier League striker Joshua King has revealed Norway international teammate Erling Haaland still ‘loves Leeds’ and also ‘loves the Prem’, with his future still up in the air ahead of the summer.
Haaland’s goal record for Borussia Dortmund – 70 in just 69 appearances – has made him one of the most talked about footballers in the world.
He has a €75m (£63m) release clause in his contract that becomes active in the summer, which is sure to spark a race for his signature from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid, who are all expected to be in the market for a ‘number nine’.
Whether or not it dictates where he will move to in summer – if he moves at all – King has revealed that Haaland is a big admirer of Premier League football.
What’s more, he remains a big fan of Leeds. The 21-year-old was born in the city in 2000 when his father played for the club and he has retained that connection long after moving away.
But while a move to Leeds obviously isn’t on the cards any time soon, it underlines the possibility he could end up at Elland Road before he retires, having previously told a Norwegian newspaper in 2017 that it is his ‘dream’ to win the Premier League with Leeds.
King appeared during a section of Ben Foster’s latest The Cycling GK matchday vlog and also added that Haaland, who he has played with at international level since 2019, eats ‘like a bear’.
“He’s just a freak,” the Watford forward said. “I’ve never seen anyone eat as much as he does. He’s bulking up. He’s shredded but, I don’t know, he just eats like a bear.
“He’s such a nice guy. Obviously, in some interviews, he came across [not], but he’s one of the nicest guys, he’s down to earth. He’s just a kid enjoying football.
“I do know he loves Leeds. I don’t know if that will happen, but I would love to see him in the Prem. I said that last summer, ‘You need to come to the Premier League’. He loves the Prem, [but] he’s still young, so he’s got time.”
