José Mourinho Has Goalposts Replaced Before Tottenham's Europa League Win Over Shkendija

José Mourinho complained to UEFA prior to Tottenham's Europa League clash with Shkendija about the size of the goalposts, which turned out to be five centimetres too small.

Spurs were in North Macedonia for their third round qualifying clash, with the match being played in the capital of Skopje given that Shkendija's ground didn't meet UEFA standards for European football.

Goals from Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane earned Spurs a 3-1 victory - despite a minor scare with the scores level after 70 minutes - but the issue of the goalposts was the headline-grabbing talking point.

As explained by Mourinho, his goalkeeper brought his attention to the issue, one he took up with the authorities: "Before the game was a funny situation because my goalkeepers told me that the goal was small," he said, via the Daily Mail.

"I went by myself and of course the goal was small. The goalkeepers, they spend hours and hours and hours in the goal so they know when the goal is not the right dimension. I am not a goalkeeper but I know football since I was a kid and I know when I stand there and I spread my arms and I know the distance, so I felt immediately that something was going wrong.

"We got the UEFA delegate to confirm and yes it was 5cm smaller, which of course we demanded for the goals to be replaced for goals of the right dimension."

Both sets of posts were removed by the staff on hand with others brought in that matched regulation height - the original ones at the Tose Proeski Arena stood two inches shorter than the requirement of eight feet.

There is no suggestion of foul play from the Macedonian side for their involvement in the incident.
