Jordan Morris & Cristian Roldan aiming for 'more championships' with Seattle Sounders
Fresh from signing new contracts, Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan are aiming to keep the good times rolling with the Seattle Sounders.
Alongside teenage midfielder Danny Leyva, Morris and Roldan committed their long-term futures to the Rave Green last week, extending stays with the club totalling over 400 appearances between the two combined.
The duo have played vital roles in MLS Cup and Concacaf Champions League successes for the Sounders, but that hasn't stopped them from being hungry for more.
“We’ve grown up [together] and were the young guys coming through, now we’re in the older side of the time and part of the core that’s been here for a while,” said Morris. “So, continue to be leaders and not be complacent… Keep pushing this team forward to try to win more championships. That’s what we’re here for: to come together as a group and win championships. I know Cristian and I are hungry and we’re going to push this team every day to be a successful team in this league.”
Roldan added: “I think it’s rare in football that you spend so much time with one club. I’ve always felt loyal to the Sounders from the very beginning. To be here and at least signed up to 13 years is something to be thankful for and never take any moment that I have with the club for granted. Hopefully, I can bring more trophies to the club.”
The players are now 27 and 28 years old, respectively. Morris has already tried his hand in Europe with Swansea, though his time there was cut short due to injury, while Roldan is a one-club man.
Signing five-year deals at this age might well be seen as settling at a club and the duo preparing for the twilights of their careers.
But Roldan doesn't see it that way. He's more determined than ever to maintain Seattle's success.
“I didn’t sign this deal to be happy and ride out my career here,” he said. “I stayed here to win. That’s my mindset going forward.”
