Arsenal Women manager Jonas Eidevall has signed a new contract with the club. The Gunners have not disclosed the length of the deal, but it is described as "long-term".

Eidevall replaced Joe Montemurro as Arsenal boss in 2021 following the Australian's surprise departure, moving to England from his native Sweden.

He had previously taken Rosengard to the Champions League quarter-finals during his second spell with the club, having also briefly worked in men's football as an assistant to Swedish legend Henrik Larsson at Helsingborg in between.

Last season, Eidevall delivered Arsenal's first trophy in four years when his team beat Chelsea in the Conti Cup final. They were also desperately close to a first Champions League final since 2007. But 2023/24, despite a strong showing in the summer transfer market, has started poorly with an early Champions League exit in the first qualifying round and an opening WSL defeat to Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Arsenal officials clearly have faith that the current difficulties will be no more than a blip and prepared to ensure Eidevall will stick around for the foreseeable future.

"I'm full of pride to have signed a new contract with this football club," Eidevall said.

"I'm aware of the huge privilege and responsibility that comes along with my role at Arsenal. This is a special place with a special group of players and staff and we all believe there is a great future ahead of us here, so I am delighted to have agreed a new deal.

"We've made great progress on and off the pitch over the last couple of years and we are all working hard to continue that growth every single day. Our ambition is to be competing for the highest honours in women’s football consistently and we all believe we are capable of achieving that.

"I'd also like to say a special thank you to our supporters. From the moment I arrived, I've felt your warm support and it means the world. Home or away, our supporters never fall short – to represent this club, this community, is an honour. Together, we can achieve so much."
