RB Leipzig have confirmed that Red Bull Salzburg manager Jesse Marcsh will take over from Julian Nagelsmann, who has agreed to join Bayern Munich once the season comes to a close.

Bayern boss Hansi Flick will step down in the summer and is expected to join up with the German national team, so the Bavarians moved quickly agreeing a record compensation of around £22m to bring Nagelsmann in this summer.

Just like Bayern, Leipzig moved quickly to find their new boss too. Sticking within the Red Bull system, they turned to Marsch, who was Ralf Rangnick's assistant at Leipzig in 2018/19 before moving to sister side Salzburg that summer.

After teasing on Twitter than 'JM' was about to replace 'JN' in the dugout at the Red Bull Arena, Leipzig finally confirmed on their official website that Marsch has penned a two-year contract and will join the club in July.

"With Jesse Marsch we were able to sign our dream candidate as the new head coach and quickly fill the most important position in the sporting field at RB Leipzig with a top coach," said Leipzig executive Oliver Mintzlaff.

"Jesse has done an excellent job in all of his previous positions and has developed step by step. It is naturally a great advantage that he has already worked for RB Leipzig for a year. Jesse knows the club, the city of Leipzig and above all our club and game philosophy.

"In addition to his qualities as a coach, Jesse is characterised above all by his positive and ambitious manner, he can inspire people in and around the club extremely and take them with him.

"We look forward to working with Jesse Marsch so that we can continue on our chosen path with him and continue to develop the club. "

Marsch enjoyed plenty of success in Salzburg. He won the double in his first season at the club, helping the likes of Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai blossom into superstars, and his side are on track to add another league title before Marsch's departure.
