Jesse Lingard has hinted in an Instagram post that his future still lies at Manchester United, openly admitting that he's struggled during the 2019/20 season.

The 27-year-old has endured the toughest period of his career over the past 12 months, with off-field distractions affecting his performances on the pitch - limiting him to sporadic appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Im starting with the man in the mirror im asking him to change his ways. This season has been difficult for so many reasons. I lost who I was as a player and person, but I never wanted to give up, I knew who I really was on and off the pitch and knew that having been there before I could get there again. This meant working harder than I’d ever done before and trusting in those around me that they knew how to best help me achieve that. I know the fans have been frustrated but in all this time my love for this club and everyone connected to it has never left me. This team, this club is my family and I will continue to keep working harder than ever to help this team achieve its goals. ❤️??? #MUFamily

In the post, Lingard acknowledged the difficulties he's faced this campaign and stated that he 'lost who [he] was as a player' before vowing to come back stronger to 'help this team achieve its goals'.

He also accepted the criticisms of fans this season, who have regularly expressed displeasure with his performances this season, saying: "I know the fans have been frustrated but in all this time my love for this club and everyone connected to it has never left me".

Lingard's words would suggest that he expects to be sticking around at Old Trafford next season, despite a report from The Times suggesting that he's hoping to put himself in the shop window when the Europa League resumes in August.

It has been widely reported that United are willing to listen to offers for the England international - who scored his first Premier League goal since December 2018 with a late strike against Leicester on the final day of the season - but the Red Devils aren't expected to force him out of the club this summer.

Lingard has made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, half of those coming from the substitutes bench. But he's contributed just three goals and two assists, which has resulted in many fans suggesting that he should be sold in this summer's window.

With the financial uncertainty sprung onto clubs due to the effects of the global coronavirus pandemic, it is expected that many sides will be less ruthless in the transfer market.

While Lingard is unlikely to play a key role in the United lineup next season, club officials may be keen to keep his versatility around - because they may not be able to pursue the number of targets they would perhaps desire.
