Bournemouth have announced the appointment of Jason Tindall as the club's new manager and successor to Eddie Howe.

The Cherries suffered the drop on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign, bringing an end to their five-year stay in the Premier League.

The club's remarkable rise through the leagues had been masterminded by Howe, who saved Bournemouth from dropping into the National League in 2008/09 despite a 17-point deduction weighing them down, before guiding them to the top flight for the first time in their history in 2015.

Howe had spent over 22 years of his career with the Cherries, but announced he was leaving the club following their relegation to the Championship.

This has left a substantial void to fill at the Vitality Stadium, and Bournemouth announced on their official club website that Tindall was the man to step into Howe's shoes.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be the manager of such a great football club,” the new Bournemouth boss said.

“Given the success of the club over the last 12 years, with Eddie in charge and me by his side, I’m not going to come in and rip everything up and start again. I would be a fool to do that.

“But I’m my own person with my own ideas and I will be looking to implement them as soon as we get back on the training ground.

“I know the Championship is a very tough league but my aim is to get this club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking."

Following a brief spell in charge at Weymouth, the 42-year-old has been Howe's assistant for the duration of his management career.

Tindall was assistant to Howe when he first took the reins at Bournemouth in 2008, before moving to Burnley with him in 2011.

When Howe rejoined the Cherries in 2012, Tindall came too, and has remained at the Vitality ever since, helping the club to the astonishing success they enjoyed over the past decade.

Much like his predecessor, the new Bournemouth boss spent a length spell of his playing career with the Cherries. He made over 170 appearances for the club across two spells between 1998 and 2011.

Promoting Howe's number two is not the 'new direction' the former Bournemouth manager advised the club to go in following his departure, but it does maintain the structure and feel of the club that Howe built.
