Bayern Munich teenager Jamal Musiala has been tipped to pledge his international future to Germany instead of England, having already represented both at junior level.

Still a month shy of his 18th birthday, Musiala has made the senior breakthrough with Bayern this season and has already made 19 appearances and scored three goals, propelling him into the spotlight amid transfer interest from Premier League clubs.

Bild now expects Musiala to commit to Bayern, as well as Germany.

The attacking midfielder/winger was born in Germany in 2003, but his family then moved to England when he was seven and it was there that his football career took off.

Musiala briefly trained with Southampton’s academy at a young age, before being spotted by Chelsea in 2011. He spent the next eight years with the Blues and by the time he left at 16 to join Bayern in the summer of 2019, he had been living in England longer than his native Germany.

Musiala has played for England at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-21 level, although he also turned out for Germany at the Under-16 age group as well.

It was as recently as November that an academy coach with the DFB claimed that Musiala ‘sees his future with the English national teams’. But that may now have changed.

If Musiala does declare for Germany it would make him a second teenage talent to turn their back on England in a matter of months. Former Arsenal youngster Yunus Musah grew up in England from the age of nine after his family moved from Italy, but he made his senior international debut for the United States, the country of his birth, in November.

Musah left Arsenal to join Valencia in 2019 and has broken into the first-team this season.
