Manchester United midfielder Jade Moore has revealed she is grateful to manager Marc Skinner for looking past her long-term injury when she joined the club in January and is now feeling ‘fit, healthy and ready’ for the 2022/23 WSL after being afforded the time to properly recover.

Moore, who had been coached by Skinner at former club Orlando Pride and also worked with him at several years earlier at Birmingham, signed an 18-month deal at United.

The England international had to wait until mid-March for her debut and ultimately managed just 38 minutes in the WSL in total before the end of the campaign.

Now, however, she has had the benefit of a full pre-season and it has become clear that her arrival wasn’t necessarily intended to be a short-term boost when she first walked through the door.

“I came off the back of surgery when I signed in January so I needed a bit of time to let the body heal…then get some chronic load under my body that would allow me to not keep breaking down,” Moore explained ahead of the start of the 2022/23 WSL season.

“I’m really fortunate that I came into this club with a manager that understood my condition and already had the foreseeable future mapped out.

“But right now I’m feeling fit, healthy and ready to go.”

Moore, arguably now like a new signing, is among a number of central midfield options available to Skinner this season. Jackie Groenen is expecting to stay at the club despite summer interest from Paris Saint-Germain, with Vilde Boe Risa, Hayley Ladd, teenage arrival Grace Clinton and club captain Katie Zelem all offering something slightly different in the centre of the pitch.

At nearly 32, Moore has considerable experience, with 34-year-old Rachel Williams the only other player in the United squad who is over 30.
