Jack Grealish is expected to complete a British record transfer to Manchester City on Wednesday.

City are set to pay £100m for the player, who has been one of the Premier League's best performers over the past two seasons. Only a handful of players in Europe can boast superior ball carrying stats than Grealish and he managed seven goals and 12 assists last term.

News of Grealish's imminent arrival in Manchester comes from the Daily Mail. He returned from holiday on Monday and held discussions with sporting director Johan Lange over his future, making it clear that he favoured a move to the champions. Villa are understood to have offered him an improved contract to stay, but Grealish turned them down.

Although his departure is a bitter blow, Dean Smith has already made several impressive additions to his side. Emiliano Buendia has arrived from Norwich City, while Leon Bailey was snapped up from Bayer Leverkusen recently. Both of these players should soften the effects of Grealish's absence.

Villa are not done yet either. They have also been linked with moves for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse and Todd Cantwell, as well as Tammy Abraham and Axel Tuanzebe who have previously enjoyed loan spells at the club. The club have ambitions to break into the Premier League top six and the money they receive for Grealish will help them to try and achieve this.

Meanwhile, City have also been linked with a move for Harry Kane. Reports are conflicted about whether they can afford the transfer after signing Grealish, but that could be irrelevant as Tottenham seem reluctant to sell.

Kane is eager to push through the move, though, and has failed to show up to pre-season training this week. He believes he has a gentlemen's agreement with the club to sell him this summer.
