Ivan Perisic has held talks with Chelsea and a number of other clubs over a free transfer having been left disgruntled by Inter's most recent contract offer to him, 90min understands.

The Croatian's current deal runs out at the end of June and a renewal appears increasingly unlikely with time running out to thrash out an agreement.

The Nerazzurri had believed the Perisic would follow his compatriot Marcelo Brozovic in putting pen to paper, but the 33-year-old has been irked by their proposal and how late an extension has been left.

Speaking about the situation after a match-winning performance in the Coppa Italia final in midweek, Perisic said: "I don’t know what’s going to happen for my extension with Inter - but you can’t manage the situation like this with important players...you can’t wait until the end."

It had been reported earlier this week that Chelsea are on the verge of signing Perisic on a free transfer. However, 90min understands that although there is interest from the Blues and talks have been held, things are not as advanced as suggested.

Although a takeover of the club is nearing completion, Chelsea are still operating under government sanctions which mean they cannot sign players or negotiate new contracts until Roman Abramovich has been succeeded as owner.

Listen now to 90min's brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott SaundersGraeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. On this week's agenda is Erling Haaland's transfer to Manchester City, Ralf Rangnick recommending Konrad Laimer to Manchester United and the latest on the contract situations of Youri Tielemans and Sadio Mane.

Perisic's representatives are now seeking an exit for their client and have held discussions with a number of interested parties, including Chelsea. Inter's Serie A rivals Juventus are also considering a move for the versatile wide man.

However, a last-minute U-turn to remain at San Siro should not be ruled out if a late agreement can be reached, with the player generally happy in Milan.

Perisic is an attractive proposition for Chelsea due to his ability to play anywhere on the left-hand side, including at wing-back. Ben Chilwell is out until some point next season as he continues his recovery from surgery on a damaged ACL, while Marcos Alonso's future is uncertain.
