After cruising through the group stages of Euro 2020, Italy take on Austria at Wembley as they bid to progress through to the quarter-finals.

Given their pedigree at international level, the notion that Roberto Mancini's Azzurri are 'dark horses' or 'outsiders' is frankly laughable - but that's bizarrely what some people thought despite their ten wins out of ten qualification record, scoring 37 goals in the process.

So far at Euro 2020, Italy have been brilliant - winning their three groups comfortably, scoring seven times and keeping a trio of clean sheets. Opponents Austria are delighted just to have reached the knockout stages, having never done so before in their history.

They're the underdogs heading into their game, but will hope that Italy playing their first game of these championships away from Rome could hinder their ability to perform.

Here's 90min's preview of the round of 16 clash...

Italy team news

Giorgio Chiellini

Giorgio Chiellini has returned to training after picking up an injury against Switzerland, but the clash with Austria may come around slightly too soon for the veteran defender.

Alessandro Florenzi is also a doubt, meaning their should be a recall for Giovanni Di Lorenzo - rested against Wales in Italy's final group game - at right-back.

Austria team news

Our 21 star Christoph Baumgartner is Austria's only injury concern after he was taken off against Ukraine following a blow to the head.

Controversially, he had initially stayed on the field after picking up the knock - scoring what proved to be the winner moments later before being deemed unfit to continue.

Italy vs Austria predicted lineups

Italy vs Austria head to head record

The Azzurri haven't lost in any of their last 13 meetings with Austria, winning ten of those fixtures and drawing in three.

Austria's last victory against the Italians came way back in 1960, when they ran out 2-1 winners in a friendly. Although the head-to-head record is largely stacked in Italy's favour, it's important to note the pair haven't met since August 2008.

Italy vs Austria score prediction

Roberto Mancini

Austria did brilliantly to progress from their group but Italy are undoubtedly the favourites and rightly so given their 100% record so far.

Although you could argue they've not been tested yet, Roberto Mancini appears to have struck a fine balance between being clinical in attack and solid in defence - they're yet to concede a goal. The likely absence of Chiellini is a blow, but even without the 36-year-old they'll fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet.

Franco Foda's side will do their best to stifle a side who have been potent in attack, but they are unlikely to be a match for Italy's all-around quality.

Prediction: Italy 2-0 Austria
